Tourette's syndrome is a type of neurological disorder, so in this article there is few information about the same.

Tourette's Syndrome

Tourette's syndrome is one of the neurological disorder that occur in childhood. It was discovered by Dr. George Gilles De la Tourette. After him, the disorder got his name. It is also known as Tourette's sometimes.

 

Occurence:- If it occurs in childhood, it is more fatal in male and if occurs in adulthood, it is more severe in females. Every year around one million people are diagnosed with the disorder in India. So it is also from a list of those common disorders. 

 

Causes:-  The basic cause of the disorder is still unknown. According to some experts, this can be caused due to chemical stimulation or suppression in the brain. And in some cases, it is genetically inherited or is caused due to environmental factors.

 

Symptoms:- 

1. Compulsive Behavior-  Compulsive behavior is observed in many cases. Person dealing with this syndrome may starts to overthink about everything, that effect his job and relationship. However it's common, means it may be caused by depression. But sometimes the person starts to develop suicidal thoughts or he/she might try to harm others also . 

2. Tics/unwanted sounds-  As per the doctors, the person usually starts to hear peculiar voices of anything such as an animal's voice or a human calling his/her name, these unwanted sounds are known as Tics. 

3. Repetitive Movements-  Person suffering with this, shows the repetitive movements, even the involuntary activities like blinking of eyes, are also sometimes disturbed. Shruggling of shoulders and like these things are also common in this. 

4. Anxiety and Apprehension- The patient coping with Tourette's syndromd develops a negative thought about everything happening around him/her. Hence, he starts to search negativity in everything, making himself totally uncomfortable.

 

Treatment:-

Self care- Self care is an important factor that helps to cure any disease or disorder. However, Tourettes is not completely curable but the symptoms can be controlled.

Therapy- Cognitive behavioral therapy and psychotherapy are suggested to the patient suffering with this. Therapies helps to control symptoms without causing much disadvantages in the body.

Medication-  There is not any particular medicine for it's treatment. Like other disorder, some antipsychotic and antidepressants are recommended by the doctors.
