Mountain Biking: An Exhilarating Outdoor Adventure Sport
History of Mountain Biking
Mountain biking first emerged as a sport in the 1970s when early enthusiasts began modifying heavier cruiser bicycles to handle off-road terrain. In the early days, mountain bikes had thinner tires, multiple gears, and hand brakes rather than pedal brakes. They were initially called all-terrain bicycles. The sport grew in popularity throughout the 1980s as dedicated mountain bike models were developed with suspension forks and cross-country race events were organized. Off-road biking truly took off as an extreme sport in the 1990s with the rise of downhill racing and freeride riding. Today, there are many different types and disciplines of off-road biking enjoyed by people all over the world.
