Impacts of Favoritism
"Anything that suggests the possibility of favoritism really begins to work against the public confidence.."
-Burt Greenwald
Favoritism is like the another way of killing someone's self confidence and hard work. The favoritism thing at any place is never fair nor good for anyone. It is present everywhere and easily negotiable. But it is more often observed at workplace.
Before doing such unfair things, an employer never thought that what would be the impact of such thing on other employees. So here I am sharing those impacts which I personally have observed and I think that these are few of most common.
Employer doing such thing is not only reducing the morale of the employees but by his such type of impartiality, the bottom line of the company is also getting affected.
Loss of interest from work
Not appreciating hard work of an employee, rather than promoting the favorite employees, would result in decreased interest from the work of these hardworking employees. They would think that no matter how hard they are working, they are never going to get any appreciation nor the place that a favorite employee is getting in front of that employer.
Decreased self confidence
If an employer is only recognizing the work done by his favorite employee, but not looking at the efforts made by the other employees. So what would that employees think? They might be thinking that problem is present in their work. They are not working properly that's why they are getting neglected by their team head. This would result in decreased self confidence of the employees.
Loss of reputation of employer
Respect between an employer and an employee, is a factor which promotes a good team work at a working place. But what if an employee lost his respect for his employer? Yes! This is the most common thing that, by seeing such type of discrimination, an employee will lose his faith for the employer. Hence causing many problems in the work.
These impacts not only causes the loss of that employer or the employee, but are also affecting the company. An employee might avoid these things for the very first time, but remember not every time.
