Impact of Covid-19 on Indian Hospitality Industry
COVID-19 which is also known as Corona Virus is the new strain of infection that emerged in December 2019. The first case was identified in China and then in March, World Health Organisation (WHO) declared this infection as a pandemic.
Due to COVID-19 the world’s economy literally shut down overnight. As the COVID-19 spreads all over the world, the government is much focusing on citizen’s health. The industry that suffered the most immediate repercussions is the “HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY”. This pandemic affects the hospitality industry as people have to maintain the lockdown, social distancing, stay-on-home orders, travel and mobility restrictions and so on. These leads to a sharp fall in hotel revenues and hotel occupation too and also decreases the demand for the businesses.
However, the reopening process has slowly begun with some rules and protocols. Like Restaurants are allowed to reopen at reduced capacity with strict social distancing guidelines.
The hospitality industry is interconnected with multiple services and if there is decline in the services it directly affects the industry as well. Closing down of all tourist places, cancellation of tickets and hotel bookings affect the smaller sectors like travel agencies, taxi drivers, traditional shops and vendors.
