Different forms of variations of dance

India also known for its rich cultural heritage has several dance forms which can be categorized into classical and folk-dance form. The types of dance forms in India are as follows:

  • Kathak dance differs from Bharatnatyam dance in several ways and is found in several forms of gharanas from Lucknow, Banaras and Jaipur.
  • Bharatnatyam classical dance originated from Tamil Nadu is perfomed solo by women with religious themes of Shaktism, Vaishnavism and Shaivism.
  • Kathakali also known as major forms of classical dance of Kerela has similar foundations as classical dances of India mentioned in Natya Shastra.
  • Odissi classical dance form originated from Odisha is performed by women and again dance drama performance art.
  • Jagoi dance also known for its Radha-Krishna called Raslila themes is based on religious theme related to regional deities.
  • Yakshagana developed in Karnataka is classified into several types such as Tenkutittu and Badagutittu.
  • Kuchipudi also one of the major Indian classical dance is related to Bhagavata Mela performance of Tamil Nadu.

 

In a nutshell, several folk dances in India represent tradition and culture of community from where it has been originated.
