Players in Final Fantasy XIV can all be landowners, but there are also downsides to being a homeowner, and it might not be for everyone. Before spending your precious Gil on the house, let’s see what you should consider.
Housing Option one — Apartments
To buy an Apartment, you must be at least level 50 in one class and at least Second Lieutenant in your Grand Company. After that, you can travel to any Apartment building (There is one in every residential and every subdivision) and purchase one from the Apartment Caretaker.
Unlike houses, it isn’t subject to auto-demolition, so it’s yours regardless of how much time you spend away from the game.
For players who like to take breaks from the game, an apartment is better than a house and is also cheaper.
Apartment Details:
Cost: 500,000 Gil
Furniture: 100 pieces indoors, no outside furniture allowed.
Vendors: 4
Flower Pots are allowed.
Chocobo Stable is available.
Teleportation is available.
Orchestrion, Armoire, Crystal Bell, and Summoning Bell are allowed in your apartment.
It can unlock to have visitors.
No Auto-Demolition.
Players are allowed one apartment per character.
Housing Option two — Free Company Private Chamber
For this, you need to be a member of a Free Company (FC), and you also need to be at least level 50 in one class and at least Second Lieutenant in your Grand Company.
To get a Private Chamber, you must travel inside your FC Estate and interact with the door to select ‘Purchase Private Chambers.’
It doesn’t auto-demolish, though you would need to vacate your chambers before you would be able to leave your FC. If you are in a good FC that you will be in for quite some time, the soft coat will make this worth it.
Free Company Private Chamber Details:
Cost:300,000 Gil
Furniture: 100 pieces indoors, no outside furniture allowed.
Vendors: 4
Flower Pots are allowed.
Chocobo Stable is available (If your FC puts one on the property).
Teleportation is available (If your FC puts an Aetheryte on the property).
Orchestrion, Armoire, Crystal Bell, and Summoning Bell are allowed inside your Private Chamber.
It can unlock to have visitors.
No Auto-Demolition.
Housing Option Three — Estate
The third option is a house with three sizes: small, medium, and large. If you want a large house but don’t have that much Gil, you can buy some cheap Gil to buy the house. The current Gil price is about 50 USD for 50M Gil, which is definitely worth it.
If you don’t want to buy Gil or don’t have that much of Gil and also want to buy a house, then the small ones will work just fine, and the price is about 3M. It’s affordable for most players, and some luck on the lottery.
Houses are generally subject to an auto-demolition timer which may be reinstituted at any time, which means that after 45 days of inactivity (not entering your house), it would be demolished to allow an active player to claim the plot. You can claim any removable items and 80% of your house’s value within 35 days of demolition, so this is a commitment if you are someone who often takes long breaks from the game.
You need all the same requirements as the other two options to purchase a house. You also need to purchase a Housing Permit to put a house on your plot.
Small house details:
Cost: 3,000,000+ Gil and 450,000 Gil Housing Permit.
Furniture: 200 pieces indoors and 20 pieces outdoors.
Vendors: 6
Flower Pots are allowed.
Garden Patch: 1 (up to 8 beds).
Chocobo Stable is available.
Orchestrion, Armoire, Crystal Bell, and Summoning Bell are all allowed.
It can unlock to have visitors and can have up to three friends as Tenants with the Estate Sharing program.
A house is lovely, but it’s lonely if you are not actively having people over or hosting events there. You run in, look around the place, maybe interact with your NPCs, and then leave. Think through before buying a house, also commit to going there once in a while. Maybe an Apartment or a Private Chamber is more suitable for you.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you can have the dream Apartment, Private Chamber, or House in FFXIV.
