The Butcher is a random boss encounter within the Dungeons found in Diablo 4. This massive cleaver-wielding monster will charge toward you when he appears on your screen and will stop at nothing to send you back to the dungeon’s beginning. Defeating him can be quite the challenge,  but He is not impossible to beat. So in this article, we will show you some tips and strategies to help you defeat this fearsome foe and claim his loot in Diablo 4.

The Butcher’s main method of attack is to charge toward your character and rapidly hit you with his cleavers. This gives you little room to dodge or defend yourself, especially when he continues his onslaught with little pause. So, regardless of your class, there are two main points to remember: Deal damage and avoid taking any. While this is easier said than done, it is necessary if you want to defeat him.

Also, the Butcher will quickly charge toward you, but he is vulnerable to targeted-range attacks. Attacking from a distance will allow you to avoid many of his cleaver attacks. Likewise, you may want a character who can quickly get close and take a few slivers of health away before retreating.

The Butcher has a lot of health and can deal a lot of damage, so having a group of players is essential to defeating him. Make sure your team has a mix of classes with single-target DPS builds and a tank to draw The Butcher’s attacks. Skills and builds like the Sorcerer’s hydras, Necromancer’s undead armies, and Rogue’s Shadow Imbuement will all help you with this, but you will also want to make sure your gear perks complement this.

Last, to beat the Butcher, you can try to leave the room he spawns in and wait for him to follow you to the point where you exit the room. Once he reaches the doorway, the Butcher’s AI will freeze, allowing you to attack without him retaliating. Whittle away at his HP until you defeat him to get your rewards.

Once slain, the Butcher will drop the typical Elite mob loot comprised of Equipment, Gold Diablo 4, and experience points. The Butcher also has a chance to drop The Butcher’s Cleaver, but it’s only equipable by Barbarians. The cleaver has the ability to Fear enemies with a 100% chance and slow them for four seconds with a 70% chance.

By the way, the Butcher is a rare, random spawn that can appear in any of the 23 optional dungeons in The Fractured Peaks. Unfortunately, there is no surefire way to find him. The best strategy is to keep exploring the different dungeons until he spawns.
