Blue Mage is a unique job in Final Fantasy XIV with its own set of mechanics and playstyle. In this guide, I’ll provide an overview of the Blue Mage job and some essential information to help you get started.

If you lack Gil when exploring as a Blue Mage in Eorzea, you can simply buy some safe FFXIV Gil to support your adventure and choose one of three methods to receive your Gil.

Whenever you are tired of leveling, we can also help you to level up any job you want with our FFXIV Power Leveling service.

About Blue Mage

Blue Mage is considered a “Limited Job” in FFXIV, which means it has certain restrictions and cannot participate in duties with random players like dungeons or raids.

Blue Mage is a versatile job that can fulfill multiple roles, including tanking, healing, and damage dealing. It excels at learning monster abilities and using them against enemies.

Unlocking Blue Mage in FFXIV

To unlock Blue Mage, you must have reached level 50 with any Disciple of War or Magic class or job, own the “Stormblood” expansion, and complete the main scenario quest, “The Ultimate Weapon.”

Once you meet the requirements, speak to the NPC Zealous Yellowjacket in Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:9.9 Y:11.0) to start the quest “Out of the Blue.”

Upon completing this quest, you can get a soul crystal, a Blue Mage weapon called Rainmaker, and the first Blue Mage spell, Water Cannon. The job starts at level 1 with a maximum level of 80.

As a Blue Mage, you can gain greater experience from battling enemies in the open world than other jobs, but this doesn’t include enemies from FATE or Guildleve.

As a limited job, Blue Mage cannot be used to progress through the main scenario.

Learning Monster Abilities

Blue Mage’s unique feature is the ability to learn skills from monsters by witnessing and surviving their attacks.

You can learn abilities by participating in specific content, such as dungeons, trials, and open-world encounters.

Some abilities may require specific conditions to learn, such as being hit by an attack or successfully defeating a monster.

Whalaqee Totem and Masked Carnivale

A Whalaqee Totem is an item that teaches a Blue Mage a new Blue Magic Spell.

Whalaqee Totems are unlocked on the vendor through certain Blue Mage achievements involving learning certain numbers of Blue Magic Spells and participation in the Masked Carnival.

To obtain these items, complete the blue mage quest “Blue Leading the Blue” and certain achievements, then speak to Wayward Gaheel Ja in Ul’dah — Steps of Thal (X:12.5 Y:12.9).

The Masked Carnivale is a unique solo challenge designed for Blue Mages and unlocked as part of the Blue Mage job quests at level 50. It provides a series of trials and puzzles that test your knowledge of Blue Mage’s abilities.

You can access the Masked Carnivale by talking to Carnivale Attendant in Ul’dah (X:11.5, Y:13.8).

Blue Magic Spellbook

Blue Mage has its own spellbook called the “Blue Magic Spellbook.” Spells are categorized into several groups: melee, ranged, caster, defense, support, and special. You can open the Blue Magic Spellbook under Character in the main menu to assign active actions.

All spells you have learned are recorded in the Blue Magic Spellbook. The book also contains hints on how to acquire other spells.

Before setting the spells on your hotbar, you must select them as Active Actions, and you can have up to 24 Active Actions.

Job-Specific Quests

Blue Mage has a series of job-specific quests that unlock new abilities and provide additional challenges.

These quests can be obtained from the same NPC who initially gave you the “Out of the Blue” quest.

Equipment and Glamour

Blue Mages can equip gear similar to other jobs and benefit from intelligence-based equipment.

Blue Mages also have access to unique glamour options that allow you to change your appearance while retaining the stat properties of your equipped gear.

Remember that due to the nature of the Blue Mage as a Limited Job, it’s best suited for solo content, exploring, and custom challenges. Its unique abilities and playstyle make it a fun and distinctive addition to Final Fantasy XIV. Enjoy your journey as a Blue Mage!
