This article is regarding the FIFA and the updates related to the World Cup that’s going to be held in 2022.
In the world of football, one of most highly anticipated tournaments is FIFA World Cup. This quadrennial tournament brings in millions of viewers whenever it is held. This also brings a jovial mood amongst the fans of football. Last world cup held in 2018 in Russia was such a grand success. There were many great moments that were captured in 2018 World Cup. From Belgium vs. Japan match to some of the best goals in the tournament. The next World Cup has even higher expectations to have even more great moments.
The next World Cup is going to be held at Qatar in 2022. The starting match is going to be held at Al Bayt Stadium on 21st November 2022. The stadium has the intake capacity of 60000 people. Other than that, there are Qatar is building 9 new stadiums and renovate the existing 3 stadiums. These 12 venues will be distributed among 7 host cities. These are Al-Daayen, Al-Khor, Al-Rayyan, Al-Shamal, Al-Wakrah, Doha and Umm Slal. The finals match will be played in Lusail National Stadium on 18th December 2022. This Stadium has the intake capacity of 80000 people. The Lusail National Stadium begin its construction in April 2017 and is still under construction as of 2020.
Currently, all 210 members of FIFA Association are in the middle of Qualifiers. These Qualifiers depends from continent to continent. There are 211 members of the FIFA Association but the host country is automatically qualified. Out of the remaining 210, 31 teams will be qualified for FIFA World Cup. To learn more about the Qualifiers, click here. After qualifying for world cup, the 32 teams will compete in brackets. The brackets will be divided in groups of 4. So, there will be 8 groups. The group matches will be held every day after 21st November 2022 until it’s over. 4 matches will be held every day at 13:00, 16:00, 19:00 and 22:00. From each group, 2 teams at top of each group will be selected for Round of 16 elimination match. The points for group stages will be standard. 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. In case of a tie in group stage, the team who conceded less goals will move forward. In elimination rounds, there is no draw. In case for a stalemate in first 90 minutes, the match will move ahead in Extra Time. The extra time will be for 30 minutes with a break at 15 minutes. If it’s still a stalemate, it will go in a penalty shootout. Each team will have 5 chances to score a goal. If both teams have scored equal number of goals, then it will be a sudden death for every penalty shootout. This is how the World Cup will be played.
